As more and more Americans appreciate the health benefits associated with
saunas,
more and more health spas and public pools can be found upgrading their facilities. While the commercial sauna has always been a part of such facilities, it was an often neglected and forgotten run-down room. Now, however, it seems the days of an empty commercial sauna are behind us. Today customers are rediscovering saunas in record numbers and appreciating the health benefits associated with heat therapy.

There are generally only two types of commercial saunas available. There's the conventional commercial sauna, designed after the
Finnish sauna
concept, which utilizes a single electric or gas sauna stove; and there's the newer
far-infrared
commercial sauna, which heats the people in the sauna using multiple infrared heating elements.
While dated, the conventional commercial sauna is hugely popular. Many health spas and public pools have this type of sauna available for their guests. Most people are already familiar with this type of sauna and are quite comfortable with using it. The conventional sauna comes in two different styles, there's the
dry sauna and the
wet sauna.
They're basically the same, however with the wet sauna water can be poured over the rocks on the sauna stove to increase the humidity. This type of sauna is generally referred to as a
Finnish Sauna.
The latest in commercial sauna technology is the
far-infrared sauna.
These type of saunas have multiple ceramic heating elements mounted on the wall which emit infrared radiation. In contrast to the conventional commercial sauna, which heats the air, the infrared saunas heat the people directly without heating the air. This makes for a more efficient sauna as only 20% of the energy goes to heating the air, while 80% is used to heat the individuals in the sauna.
